Colorado Avalanche 29-26-4, 62 pts

Winnipeg Jets 28-26-6, 62 pts

7:30pm MTS Centre

Its game two of the Jets season defining eight game homestand which started Friday night when the Jets beat the Bruins. The Jets need to build on that win as the Avs come to town for their only visit of the season. Against the boys from Bean-town Winnipeg played with a level of urgency and confidence that they have been lacking since the December homestand.  The Jets are starting to find the net while Pav is playing his usual lights out style. When the two meet the Jets can be a hard team to beat especially when they play at home. If they want to make the playoffs they need to make as much hay out of this home stretch as possible. I would say getting 12 pts out of these eight games would be a good start.

3 KEYS

KEEP SCORING

The bigs guns have finally woken up as Little, Wheeler and Kane have all been playing lights out the past few games. Wheeler has been the best Jet for the past month has he has become the dominating force many thought he would be when he was first drafted by the Coyotes years ago. The Jets are also getting secondary scoring from the likes of Wellwood and Burmistrov. If Ladd and Fehr ever play up to their potential then this team would have no problem scoring.

PLAY NASTY

The Jets seem to do better when the game gets nasty. When it gets chippy the Jets seem to gain a fire that has eluded them all season. This is not to say the Jets are a dirty team they just seem to get their heads into the game a little more as the game get physical. Just look at the Wild game. Once the teams hatred for each other started to bloom the jets took it to a new level. against the Bruin they picked up their game as soon as the bodies started to fly. One big hit or fight could be that extra spark that puts this team on the path for the playoffs.

IGNORE THE MEN UPSTAIRS

As the trade deadline looms in the horizon a lot of players especially those with contracts coming up  start to wonder if they may be involved in a trade. A few NHL teams had scouts at the MTS Centre for the game against the Bruins. The Blackhawks GM was in town which got many to speculate that they were in the market for a D man. Whomever they are after is not relevant. Until the trade happens then they are members of the Winnipeg Jets and must focus solely on that. Its too easy to get distracted by the talk of trades and especially if you are a vet with a family to consider. Chevy said that there were no untouchable players on the roster but the players don’t have time to worry about what may or may not happen. They need to focus on the Avs and the fact that with the Leafs and the Caps both losing last night they have a golden opportunity to move up in standings.
