Winnipeg Jets 20-18-5, 45 pts

January has not been kind to the boys from Winnipeg. With only one win in the last five the Jets need to do something quick to stem the tide. Its not that they are playing bad they are just lacking a certain amount of emotion that is needed to compete in the NHL. Against the Sharks the other night other than a couple bad line changes they Jets played well but just didn’t hav any offensive spark. As much as he can be a liability on D sometimes I think that the Jets really miss big buff out there. With Buff they have another dimension that teams have to plan for. With him out of the lineup that threat is gone. Now add in Bogosian out as well and the Jets are really hurting on the back end. While Bogo doesn’t have the offensive punch of Big Buff he still has a cannon of a shot and has decent enough hands that teams must be aware of him.

Claude Noel can only mix up the lines and call out his players so much. At some point they need to take it upon themselves to find that little extra inside of them that will help to bring them over the edge. The first shift the Jets need to do one of three things. Score a goal, deliver a big hit or start a fight. In a perfect world they’d get all three but at this point I will settle for one. This will bring the crowd to a frenzy and help motivate a team that isn’t feeling too good about themselves right now. They just need to get the emotions going and play with a passion that has been lacking all month.

Tim Tebow is not a very good quarterback yet somehow he finds a way to win. He never gives up and even if you disagree with his politics and views you have to respect the fact that this guy is a winner. The Jets need to find their inner Tebow. They need to stop listening to the media telling them they don’t have the skills to compete with the  likes of San Jose  or Boston. Last night on twitter local writer Paul Friesen said “Shots are now 32-18 Sharks over #winnipegjets. Sorry, there’s just not enough talent on the ice for the  home side.” I thought that the old negativity of Winnipeg had died but I guess hacks like this are keeping it alive. Listen all of the Jets have been winners in the past be it in Junior or back when they are younger. Sometimes believing is enough to propel you to victory.

When things are not going well its too easy to just force it. When that happens forcing it just seems to make thing worse. Its times like this you need to just go back and simplify things. Do what brought you success in the past. Pucks on net and a hard for-check is what helped give the Jets the best December in franchise history. They need to get back to that. They just need to stop pressing and just play hockey. Get out there and work. Play hard and have fun. When its fun winning is a lot easier. Its easy to get down on yourself and try to hard. These guys will try to carry the team themselves when at this time they need each other more than ever. Play smart, play as a team. The rest will work itself out in the end.

Go Jets Go!
