John Paddock | Winnipeg Jets CoachJanuary 19, 1996 – The National Hockey League Board of Governors approved the sale of the Winnipeg Jets. This approval officially cleared the way for the team to move to Phoenix, Arizona in time for the 1996-97 season.

January 19, 1994 – The Jets fired General Manager Mike Smith and replaced him on an interim basis with Coach John Paddock. Paddock wasn’t the answer, as the Jets proceeded to not win another game until March 2, 1994 when they beat Dallas 4-2.

January 19, 1990 – The New York Islanders beat the Jets 6-4 at Winnipeg Arena for their 9th straight win. This gave the Islanders sole possession of first place in the Patrick Division. Randy Wood scored three power play goals for his first NHL hat trick.

January 19, 1987 – The Vancouver Canucks’ forward, Tony Tanti, scored his 5th career hat trick during a 5-4 loss to the Jets, at Winnipeg Arena.
