Dale HawerchukOctober 9 is one of the most memorable days in history for many Jets fans as it represents the first NHL goal of one of the most revered players in the history of the franchise and the date the NHL and the Jets returned to Winnipeg!

October 9, 1981: Rookie Dale Hawerchuk scored the first goal of his NHL career 54 seconds into the first period, then added another goal and two assists as the Jets won 8-3 over the visiting New York Rangers.

October 9, 2011: The Winnipeg Jets made their regular season debut at the MTS Centre in front of an emotional and sold-out crowd. Not even the 5-1 loss at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens could wipe the smiles off of the faces of Jets fans as the National Hockey League made it’s long-awaited return to Winnipeg.
