I’ve said this before and I will say it again because it merits repeating. GAMES IN HAND ONLY MATTER IF THE OTHER TEAM WINS. Having it doesn’t guarantee you a point. Washington made up a game last night and guess what they got embarrassed by the Devils. The Jets are still in 8th.The media and the experts like to hold onto this games in hand myth because its the only way they can hold onto their prediction that the Jets won’t make the playoffs.  Another myth you will hear bandied around is that the Jets have a tougher schedule. I say good. The Jets play better when they play against top notch opponents. The truth is we have just as good if not better chance to make the post season than any other team we are up against. Tale of two teams. Jets sit in 8th and 6 teams fight for 2 spots. These and other stories in today’s links.

A couple months ago I wrote a post about how at sometimes this team has two identities. It still rings true. [Globe & Mail]

Last night the Caps got destroyed by the Devils and the Jets retain their grip on the 8th spot. I think its safe to start dreaming about the playoffs. Theres still a ways to go but if Thursdays game was any indication then it seems like the Jets want it a lot more than the teams they are up against. [Winnipeg Free Press]

Scoring 5 in the 3rd against the team you are competing for 1st against sends a big message. [Winnipeg Sun]

No one said it was going to be easy. There are no less than 6 teams in the hunt for the final 2 playoff spots. [Winnipeg Sun]

Sort of Jet related, Randy Carlyle takes over the Leafs. Unless he can play goalie its not going to help. [Winnipeg Sun]

7 story lines to close out the season. [CBC]
