I am not going to do post game analysis after every game, but I feel like I need to address a few things. Overall, the Jets played better, but there were way too many defensive break downs.

Scheifele looks like he is in way over his head. I guess I was right about him all along.

I thought Ladd played well and Big Buff just needs to be moved to forward.

THE GOOD

Ron Hainsey – He was by far the best Jet out there last night. He contributed offensively and seemed to always be near the puck. He was the most solid D man and made more than one goal saving play. He made it look like he deserves tha big contract. If he can keep this play up he will silence a lot of his critics.

THE BAD

Faceoffs – The Jets were horrible in the faceoff circle last night and it hurt them. When you can’t dictate play, you are going to be in trouble. The Jets went 24 for 48 with Brian Little taking the most draws - winning 9 of 21 attempts. They need to find a face off specialist or they are going to be in trouble all season long.

THE UGLY

Zach Bogosian – What can I say? The kid was really, really bad last night. He was -2 and had 2 really bad turnovers. He seems to have the physical ability yet lacks the hockey sense sometimes. Maybe the NHL game is too fast for him? Maybe he has trouble understanding the system? But, he is making the type of mistakes that defensemen who command his salary can’t  afford to make. Last night they mentioned he had issues with his coaches last season. I can see why.

GRADES

Goaltending – B

Pavelec played better. He kept the team in the game and gave them a chance.

Defense – D

Too many turnovers and too much scrambling in their own zone.

Forwards – C

The first eight minutes were brilliant. After that, they were unable to generate any offense until the end of the game.

Special Teams – F

Another poor power play performance and they gave up a short handed goal as well. Something needs to be done.

Overall – C

The Jets had moments of brillance, but they were overshadowed by moments of pure ineptitude. This team needs to focus on taking care of the puck in its own zone or it is going to be a very long season.
