Jets 2.0 pay a visit to Jets 1.0. There is no real reason for these teams to hate each other, but don’t tell that to the fans. As with every game so far there will be a lot of emotion flowing this afternoon. The good news is that this time it shouldn’t affect the players.

Only Shane Doan will have any tie to the Old Jets and he was just a rookie when the team left. The Jets come in without a point, having dropped their first two games of the young season. The last game the Jets had some moments of brillance and will hope to build on that. They need to eliminate the turnovers and get more traffic infront of the opposing goalie. Every Jets goal this season has been scored when they had a presence infront of the net.

3 Keys

The first game Oduya was the goat. Last game Bogosian was the culprit. For the Jets to have success today they need all their D to play well. They have to do something about the turnovers and get a little more organized in their own end. The D also needs to be more physical. We have a lot of size and should be using it on every shift. There is no reason for this team to get pushed around. The D needs to simplify the breakout and then get pucks deep. The more the puck is in the other team’s end the less pressure there will be on our D.

Coming into this season we all knew the Jets were going to have trouble putting the puck in the net. It seems the prophecy has fulfilled itself. What is surprising is that we have got 0 production from the players that were supposed to score. Evander Kane has been disappointing so far this season. Kane was expected to lead this team in scoring and has yet to notch a goal. He seems to have garnered the attention of the other teams and is being watched closely. Kane needs to use his size and shake his shadow so that he can get to the net. When Kane crashes the net there are very few players in the NHL that could stop him. Sadly its just not Kane, Ladd Burmistrov, Little and Wheeler all need to pick up their games and get on the score sheet. Today the Jets won’t be playing against an elite goaltender so it would be a perfect opportunity to get some points.

This will continue to be a key until the Jets score a goal with the man advantage. It looked like the Jets were going to get one last game but the ref lost sight of the puck and then blew the whistle just before the puck crossed the line. The Jets seem to be moving the puck well but are not taking enough shots. When they do take a shot it is either blocked or there is no traffic in front of the net and the goalie has an easy save. Lets get some of our big forwards infront of the net. Park Antropov infront of the crease and let him use his size to block the goalies view. I expect Noel to shake up the power play unit today and try out different guys in an effort to get something going.
