Winnipeg Jets 22-22-6, 50 pts

Philadelphia Flyers 29-14-5, 63 pts

6:00pm Wells Fargo Center

Its been so long since I wrote a game preview. I wonder if I remember how to? I think its coming back to me. Its just going to take a bit to get back into the swing of things. The thing is the Jets don’t have the luxury tonight. They’ve had some time off but cannot afford to be sluggish at all. They need to come out flying and with a new intensity that will hopefully carry them all the way to the playoffs. The Bad news is that all of the banged up Jets are still out. Buff should be back on Thursday but Kane and Stapleton may be out for a longer duration than first thought.

A win tonight over an elite NHL club would det the Jets up nicely for the rest of the season. The Jets have been able to score at will on Philly and need to carry on with that tonight. They will need to play the way they want to for the rest of the season. A strong forecheck followed by solid mistake free hockey in their own end. Sounds easy right? Well thats what they were able to do in December. They just need to find a way to get back to that. Injuries have really hurt the Jets scoring. Tonight they will be without Buff, Kane and Burmistrov. Three of their bigger offensive threats. If they can manage to pull out a win tonight without their big guns the Jets will be in a great position for when the return.

The Jets are near the bottom of the NHL for scoring in the 3rd period while they are also near the bottom in goals against in the final frame as well. This trend needs to end as the Jets will need to figure out how to play well in the 3rd period. If they are ahead they go into a prevent defense and if they are behind they scramble and give up too many chances. This is a young team and Claude Noel needs to find a way to clam them down going into the 3rd. He’s a pretty even keil guy so he just needs to transfer that calmness to his team.

More shots means more goals. The Jets are getting a lot of shots but they are either missing the net or are of the low quality variety. As they enter this home stretch they have to take better shots. They need to figure out a way to get more production out of everyone. When this team is scoring their isn’t a team in the NHL that can touch them. They have solid enough goaltending which can keep them in games and hold on to a big enough lead if need be. In December this team was lighting the lamp all the time. Due to injuries that production as stalled. The Jets have to find a way to get it going again.
