Winnipeg Jets 22-21-6, 50 pts

New York Rangers 30-12-4, 64 pts

6:00pm Madison Square Garden

Last nights game was completely winnable and with a few bounces the other way it would have been. For two games in a row the Jets have come up against a hot goalie and tonight its not going to be any easier. The Jets are 0-8 in back to back games and tonight they play one of the best teams in the NHL in the New York Rangers. I don’t think the Jets really need to change anything though. The last three games the Jets have been dominate. They are just finding it hard to put the puck in the net and a lot of that has to due with the aforementioned hot goalies.

The problem with the last two games is that the Jets have gotten behind early and have had to fight back. If the Rangers jump out to a quick lead you can probably write this one off. The Rangers have a great defensive scheme that works very well when they are up. The Jets need to find a way to strike early and strike often. If they want any chance at winning this game they need to take it to the Rangers from the first drop of the puck. In back to back losses the Jets have outshot their opponents over 2-1 yet still managed to lose. The Jets seem to control the play yet a bad break here or there does them in. There will be no room for error tonight. They need to play a near flawless game if they want to steal one in the Big Apple.

This was a key the other day and after last night it needs to be reiterated again. The Jets had 30 shots on the Canes last night. That total could have easily been 50 if they would have hit the net. At least 3 times the Jets had point blank opportunities yet managed to miss the net completely. Then there are the countless errant shots fromt he point that miss the net by 10 feet. These guys are pros and are going to need to do a lot better than that. Maybe they are rushing their shots? maybe they have the aim of an imperial storm trooper/ Who knows, but its a trend that needs to reverse itself. You can’t score by missing the net. I would rather have them hold off on the shot for a second to make sure they have it lined up.

The system is working. The Jets are controlling the play and creating chances. Sure they aren’t going in but I think that patience is a virtue in this instance. The law of averages dictates that the Jets will not face a super hot goalie every single game. Cam Ward won that game last night a did the Panther’s goalie on Saturday. The Jets have been playing really well and its only a matter of time until they catch a few breaks. Just think this is all without ome of their best players. If this team were to get healthy they would probably be up in 5th or 6th place right now. They just need to keep doing what they have been doing and the wins will come.
