Winnipeg Jets 5-6-2 12pts

New York Rangers 6-3-3 15pts

6:00pm Madison Square Gardens

No rest of the wicked as the Jets play back to back games for the first time this season. This will be the second time the Jets have faced the Rangers having dropped a game in Winnipeg a week ago. The Jets come in having to deal with a rash of injuries yet still somehow confident after some success on this road trip. No word yet if Antropov will be in the lineup tonight. The Jets missed the big man in their game against the Devils and could use his scoring touch in what could be a low scoring affair.

3 KEYS

LIMIT DEFENSIVE BREAKDOWNS

The Jets gave up 2 goals one being the game winner in OT due to really bad breakdowns in the neutral zone. This could be attributed to the depleted D unit that has three regulars out of the lineup. Whatever the issue is the Jets need to do better about controlling the middle of the ice. I’ve always said the game is won and lost between the blue lines. Whomever controls the neutral zone controls the game. Big buff looked lost out there last night and will need to step it up as the Jets need him to be a defenseman first for the time being. Once we get a few D back he can go back to pretending he is a forward.

PLAY LIKE ITS THE 3rd PERIOD ALL THE TIME

Last night the Jets played a great 3rd period as they fought their way back from a two goal deficit. They played with an intensity that was able to overwhelm the Devils and put the Jets back into the game. They need to do this all the time. The Jets seem to do a lot better when they are on the attack. Who needs D when you are in the other teams end all the time. Sometimes a good offense is a good defense. By being on the attack more the Jets will take some pressure off of their beleaguered D corps. They can afford to open it up a little due to the stellar play of Pavelec. Just keep attacking and put the other team on their heels that how you win games!

STAY AWAKE

If I was in the middle of a 7 game road trip I know I’d be tired. The Jets are at the point of the trip when fatigue is your enemy. It also doesn’t help that they are beat up and a lot of their regulars are out with various injuries. Add the time change and you have a very tired group of multi-millionaire. poor guys. The Jets need just focus on the 60 minutes on the ice and try to steal out a win. They have to play ugly. This isn’t a beauty contest and the Jets just have to do whatever it takes to get the victory tonight. This is a very winnable game and the Jets are proving that they could be in the playoff hunt this year so every little bit helps.
