| March 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Florida Panthers 30-20-12, 72 pts

Winnipeg Jets 30-27-8, 68 pts

7:30pm MTS Centre

If the Jets have any hope of winning the Southeast then they desperately need a win tonight against the Panthers. This is gut check time as the Jets come off a less than stellar game against the Oilers. Actually for 40 minutes the Jets played pretty well only to fall apart in the 3rd. They have to find a way to play complete games from now on. Only that will enable them to have a shot at the 3rd seed in the East Division. Other than that 3rd period against Edmonton the Jets have been playing very well at home. They are scoring goals and getting standout goaltending. All these trends need to continue. The Jets also get some good news in the form of Bogo will be back in the lineup tonight and Grant Clitsome is in Winnipeg and ready to go.

This is going to be a game with a lot on the line for both teams so it is imperative that the Jets keep their emotions in check. as usual MTS Centre will be rocking and its pretty easy to get caught up in that fervor. The Jets will need to remain calm not matter what happens and play their game. When the jets follow their game plan they are very hard to beat but if they try and run and gun this young team gets into trouble. Even if the Jets get behind they still need to follow the plan and just work their way back into the game. While opening it up is exciting the Jets do better when they keep it tight.

The power play has been a thing of beauty of late. The Jets must and I repeat must find a way to keep it going. Sacrifice a goat at center ice, pledge allegiance to the space god Zoltron, just do what ever it takes to keep it humming. This team has figured out what it needs to do to be successful on with the man advantage. They are moving the puck very well and finding space for their snipers. The trick will be to keep that going down the stretch. Teams in contention are going to tighten up and the refs are going to be putting the whistle away. Power play chances will be fewer and the ones they get teams will be playing harder so its important to capitalize when they get a chance.

Its real easy for the Jets to get caught up in the “how are they doing” game. The truth is the Jets can only worry about the games they are playing. They have no bearing on what other teams have done or will continue to do. It would be easy to stress out over Washington on the games in hand but that serves no purpose in achieving the ultimate goal which is making the playoffs. Tonight we face one of the teams that we are up against for a playoff spot. As soon as the game is over we need to forget about FLorida and focus on the next opponent.

Go Jets Go!
