If and its a huge if the Jets are to make the playoffs they would need to win every game here on out. Its possible but probably won’t happen. That doesn’t mean that the team should just roll over and die. They need to play like they are still in the hunt. Coach Noel and Chevy need to continue to evaluate the players. While they might be all but eliminated the way these guys play now will say a lot about them and their future with the team.
BIG GUNS NEED TO SHOW UP
When the Jets were on a roll and in the hunt their top 6 forwards lead the way. When the Jets started to slide out of contention their top six went silent. Luckily the 4th line picked up but these guy are on the 4th line for a reason. You shouldn’t expect them to carry a team during a playoff run. The top players need to step it up and get going again. I want to see Kane get 30 goals and more guys hit carrer highs.
SHOOT MORE PLEASE
The Jets do well when they shoot. They lose when they try and make that extra pass. This team just needs to shoot more and more importantly hit the net when they do. I don’t have stats on it but I would wager that they probably lead the league in missed shots. Nothing bad happens when you shoot the puck (and hit the net). Wayne Gretzky once said you will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. That is probably the truest thing the Great One ever said. If you don’t shoot you can’t win. yes there are times you should pass but if you have a shot take it. Theres always a chance for rebound.
PLAY WITH PASSION
The Jets played good in Nashville they just didn’t play with passion the whole game. If they could figure out a way to play all the time like they did against the Caps in the 3rd period we would be looking at a team that would be a Stanley Cup contender. The problem is on Saturday they played without the heart that enabled them to come back against the Caps. Maybe they were tired, maybe its not possible to play that way all the time. It just seemed like they didn’t play with the sense of urgency that was evident in Washington. Tonight the Jets need that passion back. They need to do it for the fans and for themselves. Lay a beat down on the sens and then you prove to the hockey world that you have’t given up yet.
