Ottawa Senators 11-10-2 24pts

Winnipeg Jets 9-10-4 22pts

7:30pm MTS Centre

The homestand that will define this season begins tonight as the Jets take on the Sens looking to avenge a loss in Ottawa earlier in the season. The Jets come in feeling pretty good about themselves after going 1-1-1 on a three game road trip. Ottawa has been one of the bigger surprises this season as many picked them to finish near the bottom of the standings yet now they are only 1pt out of a playoff birth. This is a game that the Jets MUST win. This is one of those games where they have more talent than the other team and must capitilze on that.

The Jets do well against the top teams yet seem to underachieve against teams that they should dominate.  Winnipeg has been able to go punch for punch against the Caps, the Blots, Philly, the Pens and some of the other top teams in the NHL. Yet for some reason they struggle against the lower teams in the league. If we want to be a serious playoff contender thats gotta stop. The Jets are a better team than their record indicates and now is the time to prove it. Last time these two teams played I said the Jets need to bully the Sens and I’m saying it again. We are the better team. Lets prove it!

When the Jets get a 2 goal lead Claude Noel must go into panic mode. He must say to himself “damn – game over.” I’ve watched a lot of hockey in my life and have never seen a team give up more 2 goal first period leads than the Jets. Its like they get ahead by 2 and then just give up. On multiple occasions this season the Jets start strong only to fall apart later on. They play a really good first half of the first period and then go into a defensive shell. The gas must be to the floor at all times. This isn’t mighty mites where you don’t want to put 10 on the other guys because you don’t want them to feel bad. This is the NHL and if you can run up the score then do it. Just once I’d like to see what this team could do if they played all out for 60 minutes.

This key isn’t for the players, its for the fans. Now is the time to show the true might of the MTS Centre. This homestand needs to become a thing of legend. Something that other teams will talk about, something that will strike fear into the opposing teams. They need to tell stories to their friends on other teams about how hostile and loud MTSC can be. Other teams need to know that this is our house and that they will have to deal with the full brunt of Winnipeg’s fury. The crowd needs to be loud, engaged oh and did I mention loud. When the Jets came back I said that this crowd could be good for a goal a game. Its time to step up and make it 2. Your team needs you. 13 of the next 15 are at home and its time the world found out what everyone in the River City already knows.

Winnipeg has the best fans. Period.

Go Jets Go!
