The hunger for an NHL team in Winnipeg is unquestionable after True North Sports and Entertainment sold out the remaining season tickets (after pre-sale to Manitoba Moose ticket holders) within second after opening to the public at 12:00 PM this afternoon.
According to the official Drive to 13 Twitter account, the tickets were sold out within seconds, but it took 17 minutes to complete all of the transactions.
The waiting list for season tickets also reached the limit and has been capped at 8,000. An outstanding show of support by the people of Winnipeg and surrounding areas.
More Proof Of Demand!
In a further show of the demand for season tickets, fans were posting ads on local classified sites willing to pay up to $1000 per seat to a Manitoba Moose season ticket holder to buy Winnipeg Jets tickets on their behalf. Hindsight shows now that this was not as outlandish as first thought.
Tickets Already Being Re-Sold
Within minutes of ticket confirmation being given, season ticket holders were announcing their intentions to re-sell the tickets via E-bay and other services with an estimated starting price of two times face value.
There are only two things that could cap this off sweeter than it already is for True North:
- Name the franchise the Winnipeg Jets
- Sign Teemu Selanne for the 2011-12 NHL season
